In Tbilisi I am considered Russian, in Russia I am considered Georgian. My first language is Russian. But when I am in Russia they tell me I have Georgian pronunciation. It is a great advantage for me. Generally the synthesis is good for people who are related to the Art. You can think on a large scale, and not be fastened to small things, let’s say ethnic, ethnography or national roots – it is very good, fantastic and necessary in itself – but it gives me amplitude of thinking, I have a great choice. This synthesis is very interesting. I think Georgia is such a place, it is a frontier between west and east, where everything is bound to each other like colors on a carpet, and the cultures are mixed. I think it is an excellent place for an artist. |

Erna Dolmazova I made this installation on the subject of secret.I have been collecting these things for ten years in my childhood. This box was kept at home, then it turned out to be in the street. It was very difficult for me to part with them. All of them were very dear to me and then an idea came to my mind. I have collected them in one form. Each of these things reminds me of a special period of time.

The part of it is destroyed. In one part there is a restaurant, a horse tramway, there is also a puppet theatre. It is a wonderful place. There I used to draw from nature. The entire district knew me. There was a second yard. The architecture was just the same. A small entry to the big yard – the yard was a closed one, very attractive and beautiful. Unfortunately it does not exist any more. I moved here in 1979. It was very difficult for me. I suffered very much. All the time I was there, I constantly saw it in my dreams. I am very fond of Tbilisi and I miss it. Now the place I live in is not Tbilisi. There were so-called “Italian yards”, individual corners, you might walk at night and see secrets of Night Tbilisi. It does not exist here. I am a townswoman by nature. Unfortunately I can’t live in a village for a long time. I knew that they had destroyed our house. I was nervous, I used to work much. I thought it would have affect on me as on an artist. I abandoned my surroundings. But another stage has begun.

It is the impression given by Sololaki, but it is abstract, not concrete. Ancientry of Sololaki, its town style, history squeezed into house texture, its antique character, I mean when dust becomes antique… For me the language itself is the main thing. In this language some things are more felicitous some are not. That means my approach is not directed at a masterpiece. It should be a language itself, if you understand what I mean… There is a concept. That means there is attempt to keep something traditional. There is image, a portrait and also the concept. By its squeezed state it creates dynamism, fractured texture. In essence the concept is: the form in an environment of complex powers, in this case a human; If it is a still life – than a thing. Here is a synthesis of objects. The wheels are objects. The small sculpt figure changes only its “objectiveness” and includes sense. The wheels are a symbol of twirling of the world. The figure is a seeker. It can’t leave twirling and is engaged in twirling so that it can’t help seeking. It is like artistic Odysseus that wanders among things and tries to get out from these things. It is search of exit and at the same time it is fun. These excessive contents maybe are not necessary. The main thing is what emotions it wakes up.
